Recruitment and Appointment of Permanent Secretaries

The Fiji Public Service Commission is seeking well qualified applicants for the position of Permanent Secretaries in the Fijian Civil Service. These are key leadership positions responsible for leading and managing their Ministries, including policy support and advice.

Permanent Secretaries are being sought for the following Ministries:

  • Education, Heritage and Arts;
  • Health and Medical Services; and
  • Youth and Sports.

Eligible candidates will have had high level executive leadership and management capabilities in large and complex service delivery organisations in the private or government sectors. They will have led major modernisation and change programmes setting strategic direction, implementing significant and sustained change, and, will have well-developed people leadership capabilities.

They will be familiar with working in digital environments and the different opportunities and demands that this brings. They will have sophisticated stakeholder and relationship management skills and strong communication and engagement skills.

Resilience and drive are essential personal attributes for this leadership role.

Relevant academic qualifications are essential.

Specifically (but briefly) address each KESA in your CV and cover letter. Include examples which demonstrate your capability and any successful outcomes.

Avoid making broad statements without any evidence. Focus on specific activities that led to achievements.

What makes a good CV?

Sell your talents. Your CV details who you are and what experience and qualifications you would bring to the role.

Some key principles for your CV include:

  • Personal: name and current contact details.
  • Qualifications: list of completed formal qualifications and details of other job-relevant training you have done.
  • Experience: list most recent work first, briefly describing key achievements or main responsibilities.
