April 10, 2024

The Public Service Commission (PSC) welcomed a delegation from the Samoa Public Service Commission in Suva today, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration and addressing shared challenges.

This meeting was facilitated through the Fale programme, which endeavors to provide support initiatives tailored to the needs and objectives of Pacific Public Service agencies.

Public Service Commission Chair Luke Rokovada, highlighted that discussions centered on key challenges shared by both countries.

Mr.Rokovada said their deliberations primarily focused on devising strategies to attract and retain skilled officers, a concern shared by both countries grappling with the issue of migration overseas of professional and skilled officers.

"We agree that there is a troubling pattern of professionals, including teachers, nurses, doctors, auditors and finance officers, departing Fiji and Samoa in pursuit of better opportunities abroad," Mr. Rokovada remarked.

The meeting also delved into the pivotal roles of the Public Service Commissions in both Fiji and Samoa, in tandem with Permanent Secretaries, concerning effective management and leadership within their respective public services.

PSC Chair reaffirmed their commitment to engage with other Pacific Public Service Commissions to facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices, thereby bolstering the integrity of public service institutions across the Pacific region.
