SUVA -The eagerly anticipated 145th Girmit Day Commemoration is set to take place at the Lautoka Girmit Multi Cultural Center from tomorrow until Monday.
In preparation for this
significant national event, Ministries are advised to extend support by
releasing Civil Servants to participate as required.
Permanent Secretary for
Civil Service Mr. Parmesh Chand said Girmit Day stands as an essential occasion
for all Fijians to come together and celebrate the shared history and the
enduring spirit of the Fijian community.
“This annual event pays
tribute to the enduring legacy of the Girmit indentured laborers whose
contributions have profoundly enriched Fiji's cultural tapestry,” Mr.Chand
said.
The official
festivities will kick off tomorrow, featuring a vibrant array of cultural
performances and entertainment throughout the day.
Attendees will have the
opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions and customs that highlight
Fiji's rich heritage.
The main celebration
will be on Monday, May 13th, with the distinguished presence of the President
His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
Simultaneously, a
parallel event is scheduled for Labasa on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at Subrail
Park from 2pm to 5pm.
