CIVIL SERVICE EXPANDS IGT PROGRAMME TO DIPLOMA GRADUATES

April 30, 2024

SUVA - The Ministry of Civil Service has announced an expansion of its Internship Graduate Trainee Programme (IGT) to welcome Diploma Graduates, marking a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and diversity in the public sector.

The Public Service Commission supports the Ministry's decision to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for a wider range of aspiring professionals.

In a move to broaden access to the programme, the Ministry has revised the eligibility criteria.

Degree graduates now require a GPA of 2.5, down from 3.0, while Diploma graduates with a GPA of 2.0 or higher are eligible to apply.

This adjustment aims to recognise diverse pathways to skill acquisition and accommodate individuals with valuable practical experience.

Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Mr. Parmesh Chand highlighted the success of the IGT Programme since its implementation in September 2023, with 69 candidates currently in the Merit Pool.

“Of these, 24 have already secured employment, in the private and public sector demonstrating the programme's effectiveness in preparing candidates for meaningful roles in Fiji’s labor market,” PS Chand said.

“Diploma graduates from the years 2021 to 2024, specialising in fields such as Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Civil and Structural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, and Project Management are encouraged to seize this opportunity to kick-start their careers in the public sector,” he adds.

The IGT Programme Framework, approved by the Public Service Commission in September 2023, provides a structured pathway for interns to gain valuable experience and skills in a supportive environment. By offering mentorship and professional development opportunities, the programme aims to empower participants to contribute meaningfully to the Civil Service.
