SUVA - The Fiji Government is committed to enhancing the working environment and conditions for Civil Servants in rural communities through the implementation of the Framework on Engaging Local Tradesmen/Women (FELT).
Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Mr. Parmesh Chand emphasised the Government’s obligation to ensure optimal productivity by addressing the deteriorating conditions of workstations.
“The FELT framework accelerates much-needed repair works, empowering local tradesmen and women to swiftly address maintenance issues without prolong delays,” PS Chand stated.
Meanwhile, the engagement of village, communities, tradesmen/women and related workers would be through existing recognised youth groups, co-operatives, or religious/social groups.
“The individuals engaged to undertake the repairs and maintenance works would need to belong to such groups for ease of administration, coordination, and supervision.”
Under this framework, engagement with village communities and tradespeople will be facilitated through established youth groups, co-operatives, or religious/social organisations.
“By partnering with these groups, we aim to streamline administration, coordination and supervision of repair and renovation tasks,” PS Chand adds.
The Permanent Secretary is confident that improving working conditions of Government stations in rural areas will foster better performance amongst Civil Servants.
