The contract for the upgrading and maintenance of the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS) was signed by the Ministry of Civil Service and Ashok Kumar Consultants in Suva this morning.
Permanent Secretary Mr.Parmesh Chand stated that the
contract has been awarded through the due process entailing competitive bidding
and Government Tender Board vetting.
Ashok Kumar Consultants is a construction business that will
be upgrading seven existing buildings and the construction of two new buildings
including landscaping works.
“The signing today is the first step in physically
establishing the much-needed learning Institute and we are excited that the
first phase of the upgrade work has commenced,” Mr.Chand said.
FLIPS was approved by Cabinet earlier this year to ensure
that the Fiji Public Sector is equipped with an experienced workforce by focusing
on high-quality learning programs targeted to the needs of the Civil Service
and the broader public sector workforce.
“The Institute will help equip the Civil Service with the
necessary skills to deal with the evolving socio-economic challenges that
Government’s all across the world are dealing with,” he said.
The Ministry of Civil Service is environmentally friendly in
its approach to establish the Institute by incorporating the use of solar
lights within the Institute.
