The Public Service Commission (PSC) hosted the Head of the Australian Public Service Commission Dr.Gordon de Brouwer at the soon-to-be renovated Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service at Nasese in Suva earlier today.
PSC Chair
Luke Rokovada said Dr. De Brouwer’s visit to the Institute is significant and
solidifies the Vuvale Partnership.
Dr.de
Brouwer joined the PSC Chairman and other Permanent Secretaries in planting trees
at the Institute marking the two countries’ commitment to foster and grow the
Fiji Public Service.
“The
Australian Government has been a close friend of Fiji and had helped us get
this Institute off the ground. We have received confirmation of support from various training providers, including the
Australian Public Services Academy,” Rokovada stated.
The PSC later hosted a Leadership Seminar with Permanent Secretaries, Heads
of Public Sector Organizations, Senior Government Officials and Head of
Government agencies providing an opportunity for leaders across the public service to learn
from seasoned and highly experienced Top Executives and Government Officials
from the region like Dr. Gordon de Brouwer.
Dr de
Brouwer spoke in length on important changes and reforms in the Australian
Public Service to improve efficiencies in service delivery.
Participants
at the Leadership at the Leadership Seminar appreciated and attained great
value in exchanging ideas, insights and perspectives with the Australian Public
Service.
Mr.Rokovada called for exemplary leadership and challenged leaders present to
cultivate a culture that leverages the
capability of others to achieve organisational objectives during the
seminar.
“Be a great
leader, be innovative and be productive, be who you wish to see in those you
lead. Because who you are is who you attract. We need to pay attention to our
staffs’ passion and make it our priority to know and value their skills and
strength. Once we’ve established this, I am confident that we will help create
a highly innovative and productive Fijian public sector,” Mr.Rokovada adds.
“Become an
innovative leader, if you want to build an innovative Ministry. Become a
productive leader, if you want a productive department. This puts you in a
position to begin building a community of like-minded people who can help the
Public Service achieve all the goals and vision of the Government.”
